A Transformational Experience

Although I have been teaching for 30 years now, which has made me a very experienced teacher, it was only when I became a LYE member that I realized how important it is to be part of a community of teachers, where we are not told what do, rather we are invited to reflect and test approaches and tools that help students to become better learners. It has been a transformational experience, not only as a professional, but also as a person. I would like to give a special thanks and praise to Leo who has always supported my growth by kindly and wisely pushing me.

Enter Reflection, Exit Ego

LYE really helps me reflect on my teaching and why I do what I do in the classroom. It affords me the time and space to do so. Without LYE, I wouldn’t have been so critical of my praxis. It’s also helped solve the problem of there not being a space to have an open and honest discussion about teaching with like-minded teachers. Too often teachers are convinced that their way is the best way and aren’t honest enough to ask “How can I be a better teacher?” Ego is the issue here.

LYE has created a space to connect with fellow teachers. Without it, I don’t know how I would’ve had the chance just to talk about teaching in a relaxed space.

A wonderful transformation

Through this program, I get all the guidance and resources I need to be a better teacher every day. Previously, I felt a lack of professional development and wanted to learn how to be better. I also felt a lack of like-minded teachers who not only support but challenge me. I’ve also worked alone and lacked a broader perspective on teaching. As soon as I joined LYE, it changed my understanding of teaching. It’s very humbling and encouraging at the same time.

Exactly what I needed

I found the course both challenging and rewarding. Challenged my learned concept of what grammar is and presented some new ways of seeing and presenting things. The pace was good as was all the material, both within the course and also the external references that were recommended.

A great investment

I have learned so much from this community, especially about dogme and how to stress less at the moment of planning lessons. I have learned about other ways that I can help my students, also is a very dynamic community, we learn so much from the podcast, our meetings and the books we read each month.

A critical eye

Since joining the program, I’ve noticed I’ve developed a more critical eye as I reflect on my process of designing and carrying out my lessons. Andrew, Mike, and Leo are incredibly supportive people and my teaching journey wouldn’t be what it is without them.

I've come away with a refreshed approach; not only having a broadened theoretical base, but also practical elements on how to apply it. I'm excited to take what I've learnt into the classroom and give my students the opportunities to develop transferable skills that they can use at home. So worth it

As the name of the course suggests, this course is not only about teaching. While you learn a lot about language and pedagogy and how to extend it to different teaching contexts, you are also provided with food for thought about your own teaching practices. During the course you become aware of what really matters when it comes to teaching languages and how to raise awareness of aspects that increase your learners’ autonomy and production.

No reason not to join

I have been part of LYE teacher community since December. I love the way academic concepts are explained and you can actually apply them in your classes. You start to understand what works and what doesn´t when it comes to learning a language. I am immensely thankful for all the knowledge the LYE team made available.

Just Amazing

At first, I was very insecure about becoming a member, but LYE support was impeccable. They answered all of my questions patiently and made me feel embraced. Leo, Mike, and Andrew are so gentle and they always make people feel comfortable. Being able to get together with teachers from the most diverse educational and cultural backgrounds is amazing. The atmosphere in our meetings is different from everything I've ever experienced and I love how much people are valued and given a voice. I also appreciate the support from the other members who are always willing to help, share and contribute. I definitely recommend the LYE Teacher Membership for every teacher open to having a more critical view of education and being part of a terrific community.

A place to be

I joined LYE in February this year, looking for strategies to optimize my lesson plannings. Since then, I was not only exposed to great books, which prepared me for lesson planning more effectively, but was also introduced to a great group of diligent people who I meet twice a month live to discuss teaching issues and other things. LYE also offers participation in projects they are carrying on and partnerships with teachers. It's the best place to be!

A place to keep learning

I was sent a link to a LYE podcast in early 2021 and not long after made the right decision to join the membership. I’ve learned so much in the past few months from this community of educators from all over the world. There’s a lot of professional development out there, but nothing like what Andrew, Mike, and Leo have built. This is a gathering place to challenge ideas, to reflect on your teaching, and to continue learning. Webinars, readings, podcasts, and online courses: this is simply the best teacher program around!

Worth it just for the community

I've been a member of this awesome community for a month, and I'm loving it! Getting online and meeting so many teachers from different countries has led me to think about my teaching and learning styles. I'm eager to apply everything I'm learning, and I must confess I always leave the meetings with new ideas, tools, and even questions to continue investigating and building on my professional development. Furthermore, they offer you different courses, webinars, podcasts, and even the possibility of joining different projects! I definitely recommend LYE for those who want to keep on growing as teachers!

THE FIRST MEETING INTRODUCED AN ENTHUSIASTIC TEAM THAT ENCOURAGES CRITICAL THINKING AND CHALLENGES THE STATUS QUO IN TOPICS THAT COVER ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE LEARNING FROM CONVERSATIONAL TO ACADEMIC PROGRAMS. PARTICIPATING IN THAT FIRST MEETING WAS EXHILARATING FOR ME, AND I HAVE SINCE BEEN TO SEVERAL WORKSHOPS AT THE REAL INSTITUTE AND TOSCON. THESE WORKSHOPS WERE PROFESSIONALLY DELIVERED, INTERACTIVE AND USEFUL, NOT TO MENTION INTERESTING! EACH SESSION MOTIVATED ME TO CONSIDER NEW WAYS OF PRESENTING IN MY OWN CLASSES AND ALSO RAISED AWARENESS TO THE METHODOLOGY. An excellent professional development opportunity for any EFL teacher, both novice and experienced

One of the best online programsI have taken! Well-rounded, straight-to-the-point, relevant and theory-light content, focused on the most problematic language areas for students. Clearly structured units, easy-to-complete bite-sized sections, ranging from short video presentations to practical tasks. Plenty of opportunities to personalize the knowledge and deepen understanding through reflection tasks and reference to your own teaching context.

This was definitely a very enriching and positive experience. Specifically, it made me realize how inadequately Grammar is represented in mainstream EFL coursebooks and the negative effect this has on both teaching and learning. It helped me readjust my focus from the form to the use when teaching grammar and definitely raised my language awareness as a whole.
